Govt Sanctions ₹11,828.79 Cr to Boost Infrastructure and Academics at Five IITs.

The Indian government is enhancing five IITs, located in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh; Palakkad, Kerala; Bhilai, Chhattisgarh; Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir; and Dharwad, Karnataka. These IITs will welcome over 6,500 additional students in the next four years. The total student capacity will grow from 7,111 to 13,687, providing more learners access to quality education. A significant hiring drive will introduce 130 new Professor roles, offering prestigious opportunities in academia. 

Industry and University Collaboration: Five advanced research parks will be established to foster collaboration between industry experts and academic scholars, paving the way for innovative projects and developments. This initiative will generate various job opportunities, from academic faculty to administrative staff. It will also stimulate local economies, creating more demand for housing, transportation, and local services.

A substantial budget of ₹11,828.79 crore will be allocated over four years, from 2025-26 to 2028-29, ensuring all the developments are adequately funded.

The overarching aim is to strengthen India’s higher education system, promote innovative ideas, and enhance competitiveness globally.
