India Introduces E-Passports to Enhanced Security and Faster Global Travel
India has taken an exciting step forward by introducing e-passports, which are set to revolutionize international travel. These high-tech passports combine electronic features with traditional passport booklets, making journeys not only safer but also much more streamlined. Imagine a world where the hassle of identification checks becomes a thing of the past, all thanks to these advanced travel documents. This initiative is a significant part of the Passport Seva Programme (PSP) Version 2.0, which officially kicked off on April 1, 2024. This program aims to bring a new level of security and efficiency to travelers across the nation. With e-passports, travelers can look forward to faster and more secure processing at immigration, reducing waiting times and enhancing the overall travel experience.
E-passports are now being rolled out in vibrant cities like Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Jammu, Goa, Shimla, Raipur, Amritsar, Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Surat, Ranchi, and Delhi. There's an ambitious plan in place to ensure that by the middle of 2025, every Passport Seva Kendra will offer these modern passports. In Chennai, the introduction of e-passports began on March 3, 2025. By March 22, a remarkable number of e-passports had already been issued throughout Tamil Nadu.
