Reuters Clinches 2025 Pulitzer

Reuters Clinches 2025 Pulitzer for Investigative Reporting — Journalism’s Highest Honor.

Pulitzer is most prestigious award in American journalism.

Reuters won a 2025 Pulitzer Prize for their series "Fentanyl Express," which looks at the trade involved in making fentanyl, a drug at the center of a crisis that's taken around 450,000 American lives.

This honor highlights the important work of Reuters journalists who explored the secret supply chains of the synthetic opioid. The series explained how materials from China, which are used to make fentanyl, are surprisingly cheap and easy to get. It also discussed why efforts to stop this dangerous market have not worked.

Reporters Maurice Tamman, Laura Gottesdiener, Stephen Eisenhammer, Drazen Jorgic, Daisy Chung, Kristina Cooke, Michael Martina, Antoni Slodkowski and Shannon Stapleton worked on this series. It was overseen by editors Marla Dickerson and Feilding Cage.

The Reuters team acquired all the materials needed for making fentanyl and used this information to delve deeper into the illegal market. The seven-part series exposed, for the first time, how the chemical supply system aggravates America’s fentanyl crisis. It also examined the reasons why the U.S. efforts to stop the issue have not succeeded, despite significant attempts by the Biden and the first Trump administrations.

"We are very proud to receive this important award. It highlights the hard work and bravery of our journalists in exposing a major issue of our time," said Alessandra Galloni, editor-in-chief of Reuters. "The 'Fentanyl Express' series is a clear example of how investigative journalism can create change and ensure those in power are held accountable. I am really proud of the team for their commitment to delivering this crucial story with such depth and detail."

"It's fantastic for Reuters to be recognized by the Pulitzer Board for this remarkable work," said Paul Bascobert, President of Reuters. "The team's unique way of showing how fentanyl reaches U.S. streets illustrates the essential role of journalists in providing people with accurate and unbiased news."

The series also recently won awards from the White House Correspondents' Association and the Overseas Press Club.
